Junior Cast Production (8 to 14 yrs)

In July 2022 Beyond Broadway Experience will produce a full musical especially for our 8 to 14-year-old performers! SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL JR.

Now one of the most performed shows in America, SEUSSICAL is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant and The Cat in the Hat. The colourful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

This is your opportunity to audition for the professional creative team, secure your place in the cast and walk out on stage this coming July at the incredible Festival Theatre Stage in the capital city of Edinburgh.

The age range for Junior Cast participants is between 8 and 14.

SEUSSICAL JR will rehearse from 16th July to 28th July between 10am and 4pm (except Sundays) and will then be performed on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th July.

Auditions in person will be held on November 28th, or you can submit a video audition by November 27th (details on registering). The deadline to register to audition is November 19th, and the cast will be announced on December 3rd!

What does BBE involve?

Regardless of which summer production you want to take part in, you will need to be available to rehearse in Edinburgh during your summer holidays for the full, supercharged two-week process starting on Saturday 16th July, culminating in the show performances.

Participants will get to work with our professional Creative Team and also take away a free and exclusive cast t-shirt as a souvenir!

You will need to complete the application process, including paying a £10* audition administration fee, and – if you accept an offer to participate – pay your participation fee**.

If you are age 12, 13 or 14, you can audition for both productions if you so wish. Though you cannot be in both shows, you may well be able to choose between them if you are accepted into both casts. You will either be amongst the most experienced in the Junior Cast or the least experienced in the Senior Cast! You must pay an audition fee for each audition you want to attend.

  • The participation fee** for The Beyond Broadway Experience in 2022 is £295
A discount of 25% on participation fees is available to siblings

* Audition administration fees are non-refundable, under any circumstances.

How do the fees work and where does the money go?

We don’t want this project to be accessible only by the fortunate few youngsters who have a financial advantage and so have kept the cost to an absolute minimum. Looking at other projects that are on offer during the school holidays we have managed to keep the price for two full weeks of rehearsals and performances to the very minimum. Having the use of beautiful professional venues is expensive and we also need to cover the rights to the shows we produce. We must then employ a professional creative team including directors, choreographers, musical directors, musicians, lighting and sound designers, set builders and artists, costume coordinators and graphic designers. We also have professional vocal coaches, accent tutors and acting teachers on hand to help our cast be the best that they can possibly be. And not forgetting pastoral care for our young cast, through dedicated chaperones and supervisors. We also have to hire rehearsal rooms… the list goes on and on! To ensure that those taking part in our project have an experience unlike anything else on offer we also fly in fabulous guests to support us! In previous years we’ve had West End and Broadway stars working with the cast, London Casting Agents help at auditions and TV personalities pop in to support us.

The cost for one full two-week programme is £295 in 2022*
plus a non-refundable administration fee of £10 per audition.** Audition and participation fees are non-refundable, under any circumstances.

* Due after offer to participate. This is non-refundable under any circumstances and payment accepts your place in the cast of the show. Initial offers to take part in the project will be sent after the first-round auditions at which point you need to confirm your participation. We will then invite selected people from those who have confirmed their participation to audition for specific roles if we think they are suitable. As this project is about teamwork and the ensemble nature of musical theatre, we are not interested in working with young people who only want to participate if they are cast as principal roles. The value of participation does not lie in what role you take within the process. We do not therefore invite applicants to recall auditions until they have committed to the project. Please also note that following on from the 2020 Covid-19 crisis, we reserve the right adapt our rehearsal process and performance medium to conform to any future government restrictions without obligation to offer any refunds whatsoever of fees paid.

** Due on application. Why are we charging an audition administration fee? The administration and staffing costs of our auditions are large and are dependent on how many people we think are turning up to the audition. If we don’t have everyone show up who said they would then we have lots of extra staff and studios not being used throughout the day, which wastes money we could have allocated to more fun things like costumes, props and set. The audition fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.
